Choosing the best carry-on luggage for travel can be difficult. There are a lot of great brands out there with pros and cons to each. Recently Hanke Carry-On Luggage has started to get some attention online for their high-quality, affordable luggage. With an elegant style, sturdy construction and plenty of interior space it really is hard to argue. I got to take their 20” Carry-On Luggage for a few trips and compared it to customer reviews and ratings. Here’s what I think about the Hanke Carry-On:
After some hands-on time with Hanke’s compact, durable spinner suitcase, I can definitely say they offer a lot more value than their price suggests.
In this review, I will cover the Hanke 20″ Carry-On and briefly cover the 26″ Spinner as well, including real-world experience using, durability, design and specs.
Hanke Expandable Carry On Luggage
Build & Materials
The first thing you notice when you first unpack a Hanke suitcase from the box is how premium it looks. The hard exterior shell is made from a three-layer Covestro polycarbonate (PC) material. This is the same type of material you’ll see used in the highest quality hardside luggage brands. This material makes the Hanke have a solid yet flexible shell, with a more sturdy feel than ABS blends.
The textured surface looks nice, and works to provide excellent scratch and scuff resistance. This carried through in real-world usage, since after several domestic flights and a rough car trunk ride, the exterior showed very little wear. I tried out the blackish green color, but they also come in eye-catching Smoke White and Peacock Blue colors if you want something that really pops at the carousel.

Spinner Wheels & Maneuverability
One of the first things I noticed about the suitcase is the 360º spinner wheels. The Hanke’s spinners feel smooth and stable even when the suitcase is heavy with clothes and gear. The 8mm thickened TPE skin and precision shaft construction allow the wheels to be both quiet as well as have the durability to take on cobbled streets and rough airport floors.
I dragged this luggage through airplane aisles, sidewalks, and rough hotel lobbies. The roll was smooth and the suitcase never wobbled or tipped.

Handle & Ergonomics
The telescopic handle is where I feel Hanke really gets it right. The wide handle is sturdy and more ergonomic than average. It locks into several positions and height adjustments. The wider bar also makes pulling a more balanced feel than traditional thin aluminum poles.
This ergonomically unique handle design is not just good looks. Having that larger handle area also makes it easy to stack a smaller bag or duffel on top and not have it tip.
Interior & Organization
The interior of the Hanke carry-on is pretty cleverly thought out. It has two large open spaces, on one side the elastic cross straps and a zip pocket you can see through, on the other side there is a completely enclosed space. This U frame zippered space also contains a toiletry pouch and a mesh pocket for smaller items.
There is also a small waterproof interior pocket, which is great for soaking swimsuits or used toiletries. The interior lining is a luxuriously soft fabric that feels more high-end than you would expect for the price.

Security & Zippers
Hanke does have a TSA-approved combination lock built in, which works fine and flushes with the frame. The reverse coil 5-strand explosion-proof zippers also have a sturdier feel than average. These zippers have that heavy-duty feeling with none of the flimsy plastic feel.
They also all use YKK zippers which is a great plus. This brand is the gold standard when it comes to zipper durability and long life.
Size & Airline Compatibility
Dimensions for the 20-inch carry-on size is built to meet most domestic and international airline size requirements. This includes the often-seen 22” x 14” x 9” limit.
At 6.83 lbs it is not the lightest carry-on suitcase available, but for the rugged materials and durability it is still a comfortable weight.

Durability After Repeated Use
Hanke carry-on has held up like new for me after 3 trips (2 flights, 1 road trip). The hardshell survived the inevitable overhead bumps and jamming in tight taxi trunks.
The spinner wheels also maintained that smooth roll after rough treatment. The telescoping handle didn’t rattle or jam. Several customer reviews seem to verify this as well:
