The RAINSMORE Expandable Carry-On Luggage breaks the mold and stands apart from your average clamshell suitcase. After rolling it through airport security, stuffing into overhead bins, and taking on short domestic trips, I can confidently say that this suitcase was designed with how people actually travel today.
This suitcase has been designed with convenience in mind. The advantages of a front opening laptop compartment change the way you pack and access your items, while the expandable function lets you squeeze extra items in without beating airline size restrictions. The materials and build feel durable, and overall I enjoyed using this bag more than your average carry-on.
Build & Materials
The first thing you’ll notice when picking up this carry-on is how balanced it feels in your hands. This hard shell is thick and impact-resistant, without feeling unnecessarily bulky or heavy. Most impressively, it doesn’t feel cheap or hollow like some budget hard-shell luggage I’ve tested recently.
The exterior pattern has subtle horizontal striations. This helps conceal light scratches and fingerprints. It’s small, but this actually comes in handy more than you would think. After dragging it across airport floors and jamming it into overhead compartments, mine still looked cleaner than most.
The zipper track is reinforced and feels solid. The expansion zipper also glides easily without feeling forced. This is key because almost all expandable luggage feels like the weakest point after you unzip it to maximize space. In this suitcase, it holds strong.
Front Opening & Laptop Compartment
Hands down, this is my favorite feature of the RAINSMORE Expandable Carry-On. Instead of splitting your suitcase in half, the front tab unzips forward revealing its built-in organization center and padded laptop sleeve.
How does this help you in real-life airport scenarios? Rather than flipping your bag open or stuffing your hands into your packed clothing, I easily retrieved my laptop and tablet at security checkpoints. In high traffic security lines or when there’s little room to manuver, this is far more convenient than a standard clamshell suitcase.
Inside the laptop sleeve, my work computer and tablet fit comfortably. It can accommodate up to 15″ laptops without worrying about your device shifting around while rolling. There are also helpful pockets for cables, cords, and documents so you can keep things separated and organized.
If you travel for work, regularly carry electronics, or simply like to have easy-access to your essentials this front opening laptop compartment was designed for you.

Interior & Packing Layout
Inside the main compartment, the packing layout is roomy and efficiently designed. The main packing area is spacious with compression straps that actually work. Clothes don’t shift around, and the suitcase doesn’t feel off-balanced when you’re packed and ready to roll.
Despite the front opening laptop sleeve taking up real estate, this carry-on still offers ample space for a carry-on. I had no problem packing multiple outfits, shoes, and toiletries without feeling cramped.
Interior pockets are placed thoughtfully throughout, and there’s even a dedicated pocket molded to securely store a tracking device. These small, thoughtful details make you realize the designers know how people actually travel these days.
If I had one word to describe everything inside, it would be intuitive. You won’t have to struggle with the layout or try to make it work.
Expandable Capacity
Its expandable zipper added about 5 liters of packing space. While 5 liters doesn’t sound like much on paper, it was tremendous for my return trip home.
I used the expansion during testing to stuff in souvenirs and extra clothing. The carry-on managed to flex with added bulk without feeling awkward to roll or manage. Despite being fully expanded, it still fit in most overhead bins on domestic airlines.
My favorite part about the expansion feature is that it doesn’t feel like you HAVE to use it. Zipped down, the bag maintains a sleek profile that’s no bulkier than most carry-ons. When you need the extra space for souvenirs, toiletries, or overweight laptops, it’s there but doesn’t force you to upgrade to a checked bag.
Rolling & Handling
The 4 spinner wheels glide smoothly and quietly on just about any surface. From carpet, airport floors to sketchier surfaces like sidewalks, they roll smoothly whether the suitcase is fully packed or not.
The telescoping handle is seamless to extend and locks securely at multiple levels. There is no give or wiggle even when rolling at faster speeds or quickly changing directions. Another one of those features you don’t realize how much you need until you get a bad one.
Rainsmore also did an excellent job balancing this carry-on. It doesn’t desperately lean forward when you come to a stop. I’ve had cheap suitcases attempt this at high speeds and regretted it.
TSA Lock
The built-in TSA lock was easy to use and understand. It uses a 3-digit combo lock system that you can customize. Like any TSA lock, the owner doesn’t get a key. The tiny keyhole on the lock is strictly for TSA agents to open the suitcase without cutting the lock.
During normal use, the lock felt secure and sturdy. It doesn’t rattle when shaken, and the zipper pulls snap into place when locked.
Simple. Efficient. Just like it should be.
Airline Compatibility
The RAINSMORE Expandable Carry-On fits within most carry-on size limits for domestic and international flights. Tested and true, it slid into overhead bins smoothly every time without forcing ridiculous angles to cram it in.
This carry-on feels compact enough to tackle cramped aisles and busy boarding groups, but has enough room inside to pack efficiently.
Travelers who want to keep flying carry-on only will love how compatible this suitcase is.
