Traveler’s Choice Pagosa Luggage Review

Are you on the hunt for a durable, lightweight, and feature-packed carry-on? Then the Traveler’s Choice Pagosa 22” Carry-On Spinner might just be what you need. A compact hard-shell with a surprisingly high level of functionality, this bag is more than just a looker. From the built-in USB charging port and TSA-approved lock to the expandable storage and whisper-quiet spinner wheels, this carry-on is packed with smart and convenient travel features.

I recently snagged four of these bags during Prime Day, and after taking one on multiple domestic and international flights, here are my unfiltered impressions of this otherwise excellent carry-on.

Design and Durability

One of the first things that sets the Pagosa apart is its polypropylene hardshell. Made from high-density plastic, this shell is impressively durable, abrasion-resistant, scratch-resistant, and water-resistant. I dropped my testing bag into every conceivable form of abuse during my testing, from being dropped on the ground to being hung off the edge of tables, and while the shell flexed as it should, there was no cracking, creasing, or denting to be seen. Hard to scratch or break, it’s not a bag you want to accidentally sit on, but it should be able to take a beating in overhead bins and on the ground.

The Pagosa also weighs a mere 6.3 lbs, making it one of the lightest carry-ons I’ve ever tested. The shell is substantially lighter than competing polycarbonate hardcases, but for air travel, this is a great thing. Having said that, this lighter weight does make for a more flexible shell than I am used to with traditional polycarbonate cases. Fortunately, the Pagosa survived multiple car rides, flights, and baggage handling without any structural failures.

Wheels and Maneuverability

The spinner wheels are perhaps the smoothest and quietest 360-degree wheels I’ve ever encountered. On a hard surface like an airport terminal, they are as silent as a regular roller bag. Even over cobblestones or other rough surfaces, the Pagosa rolls smoothly and quietly, providing an ultra-refined feel that you rarely see in the budget range.

The telescoping handle is a sturdy, multi-stage model with a push-button adjustment mechanism. I had no issues with the lock staying in place at multiple height settings, and it felt good for a range of heights. The one minor downside to this bag is that the side and top rubber carry handles have exposed ends. While they work as designed, they do seem like weak points that are liable to snag or wear out over time if you plan on checking them in regularly. But if you’ll be using this as a carry-on exclusively, this should not be a problem.

Interior Space & Organization

The interior is one of the best features of the Pagosa 22” Carry-On Spinner. The dual-sided design includes:

  • Compression straps on the back to secure rolled-up clothing in place
  • Zippered pockets on both sides for organizing toiletries, cables, or undergarments
  • High-quality self-mending #10 zippers on all closures that operate smoothly even when yanked

Plus, there is a special power bank pocket that slides over the external USB and Type-C charging port. This allows you to charge your devices while you wheel around the airport. While the included charging cable is a bit of a glorified extension cord, I can definitely see this being useful for those who hate digging through bags for their phone cables when they land.

Note: This bag does not include a power bank. You will have to bring your own.

Expandability & Capacity

Speaking of packing, another useful feature is the expandable 2” gusset. It allows you to overstuff your bag a bit when needed, which comes in handy when you are traveling home with more than you left with. I even pushed this bag to its max expanded limit and it still fit into the overhead bins on every major US airline I flew with during testing.

The bag’s internal dimensions measure 19.5” x 13.75” x 8.75” and external dimensions (including wheels and handle) of 22” x 14” x 9.25”, which puts it right at or below most airline carry-on size restrictions. More importantly, it has enough room for most domestic trips lasting 3-5 days.

Style & Color Options

In addition to the various modern colors that this carry-on comes in, such as the Navy Blue I used for testing, it also has a sleek matte finish. While it looks pretty sharp, it also does a great job of concealing superficial scratches and scuffs that it accumulates along the way.

Pagosa styling is minimalist, yet surprisingly contemporary. The subtle geometric curves give this carry-on a level of sophistication that many other budget-friendly options lack. It’s a great choice whether you are flying for business or pleasure.

Final Verdict

The Traveler’s Choice Pagosa 22” Carry-On Spinner is an impressive value for the price. Its stylish, lightweight, and durable build combined with thoughtful tech features and organizational touches make it a great option for budget travelers, road warriors, or anyone in the market for a well-rounded carry-on.

The built-in USB charging ports are a nice convenience rather than a dealbreaker if you don’t use them, and while the hardshell won’t stop a sledgehammer, it is more than enough for carry-on usage.

Overall, this bag punches far above its weight class. Would I buy it again? Absolutely. In fact, if you can snag it for a good price, I consider this one of the best travel purchases you can make.
